    I do not get the "TRAVEL" thing with people. Think about it, our whole careers we Commuted to work, traveled for work, etc... I just want to sit in my beautiful backyard with my Wife and Dogs and relax. Go for a morning hike, afternoon under the tree nap and then cook on our firepit or head to one of our local awesome Taverns. We are not into taking our shoes off at airport, wait 6 hours in said airport for delayed flight, flying to a country that hates Americans. We do like road trips within our great country.

    I disagree about the cars. We have older cars we maintain. We have different activites and part time jobs in different directions. We do more things together but have many separate activites. No local public transportation, nothing in walking distance and I don't want to do Uber. We fit them into our budget.

    Health and Financial security. I’ll be soon entering retirement and the last 5 years have been a constant March to see the doctor. This from a person who saw the doctor 3 times until around 55. If you don’t have some level of Financial Security it makes health problematic. The stress worrying will drive you to the grave just as easy as anything. For me local ( within the US) is fine. Oversea’s not so much - was fortunate during my working life to travel overseas and I’ve seen enough for me. Family is extremely important but, I don’t want to be constantly at my kids door. I want them to do what they feel best for them and I’ll be there in the background helping where I can and being there when I need to be either for them or me.

    I notice that at the end of this video you started to slur your words a bit. I have had a severe speech impediment myself, so I am acutely aware of small changes. The film The King’s Speech was pretty much my situation. Perhaps a topic you might explore could be “Little Things That Could Mean a Lot”. We both enjoy your videos. Much of what you say is very relevant to Australian retirees, despite the major differences in our societies.

    This is what REALLY Happens.😱😱😱Believe it or Not! In Texas years ago, my son's SS number was being used by some illegal person in New Mexico. The Texas law enforcement, the New Mexico law enforcement, the company which had employed the fraud individual, and the SS Administration were no help in resolving this fraud. IRS was trying to hold my son responsible for two yearly wages in two different States. Impossible to work those two jobs. Distance and time made it impossible to work those jobs by one person. No one would help. They don't CARE! The SS Administration told my son to get a new number which if he did, he would lose all pass years' contributions to his SS number. Unbelievable! My son kept his old number and only paid his taxes for his one job in Texas. We are target to more fraud by having a Hispanic name by illegals. Maybe if my name was Biden it would be different 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Oh, my son's SS number was used several years later. The IRS was more cooperating the second time. They don't prevent fraud with red flags in placed. They don't care! There is no way of preventing someone from using your SS number. They are just numbers. Just keep paying your taxes.❤❤

    I become eligible to retire in 9.5 months at the age of 49 and to be honest I am not sure what I want to do. Fortunately it’ll be a pension with medical insurance at no extra cost. I don’t have any debt and my monthly expenses are between $900 - $1,300. Pension will cover current monthly expenses easily but still not sure what I want to do. I do enjoy my job fortunately but do think about living abroad and getting to know other places, cultures, foods, music, etc. Also, do have an emergency fund that can cover about 2-3 years of monthly expenses and also have a little bit of $$ in 457 plan. I guess once I become eligible, I’ll see how I feel about retiring. It’s a big decision for sure. Good luck to everyone and God bless you all.

    Good list. Personally, continuous learning is a priority, after health and financial security. It ties into self-discovery, but I don't think it's quite the same. This is why I retired last year. Traveling, experiencing new things, meeting new people, developing new perspectives and constantly widening my mind is far more fulfilling than stagnating in the corporate world, regardless of the constantly evolving "challenges" that life can present.

    If you are not a Boomer, retirement will not exist except for top 10% due to the decades of inflation coming. The word "retired" gets retired under a CBDC system as well and carbon credits. Even if you have the money, you wont be allowed to purchase much due to carbon rations. No meat, dairy, gas or flights. And no one will own more than one home (if that). Retirement existed for a few generations with pensions, SS and a 40 year bull market. I couldnt earn in 3 lifetimes what I would need to "retire" for even 10 years. That era is over for anyone born after 1960 or not a white man

  • @the_real_life_bondgirl
    @the_real_life_bondgirl 13 годин тому

    Hard to save in any meaningful way when inflation is 20% in real terms and wages are flat or even 2% raise. That means, for every year you work you lose 18% at least in this environment since Covid. Inflation compounds, so in three years, you have lost 70% of your purchasing power by working and getting raises. Unless you are a couple, it is impossible to save as a single. Prior to 2020, I saved 40% of my income by living very frugally.. thermostat at 88 in Phoenix in summer, one meal a day, cutting medications in half, small studio condo making 110K a year no debt. After Covid, that same lifestyle now costs me all of my pay- every dome. The 40% buffer is not only gone, but I am unable to cover my few bills- even living frugally.

    The cost of getting ill is more than any American can afford right now. Or most Americans anyway. All older people need medical care, all humans get sick. So I’d guess that retirees are all holding onto every dollar that they can, so as to be able to pay some part of the upcoming medical bills, to possibly try to save their own lives.

    Hard to move up the corporate ladder when nobody has their financial situation in order, or just doesn't want to retire. You can't compete with someone with 25+ years of experience, and the company doesn't want to pay more money for you to be in the same position. You wonder why the younger generation is job hopping... Because nobody is retiring, and we are not getting paid enough for basic bills, much less savings.

    Being involved in a broken marriage can be a retirement killer. We raised two children to adulthood. Fortunately the marriage did not fail and the kids know how to manage their finances. Looking back I realize how lucky I was. I know a number of guys that fell into a financial black hole due to divorce and child support. Also I am glad I do not have grandkids and probably never will. I have a sister that has three grandkids living with her because her daughter is an airhead.

    We took SS at 62 each and I have not regretted it. His job went away at 61. Due to health reasons he took SS early and went with a part time job. We were raising our grandson at that time. I was teaching. But after cancer I retired at 52 and have a pension. For the last 20 years I have worked in education part time and am retiring fron it. We still had a 16 year old. Due to a small inheritance we sent him and my daughter to college. My parents died in their 60s and didn't collect much SS. My spouse still has a small part time job 5 hours weekly he enjoys. I hope to have the same. No debt but a small Home Equity loan. That helps. We don't live a high life but do go on vacation and do things we enjoy and volunteering. Living on a budget, saving into sinking funds and tracking spending keeps us out of debt.
